This presentation will compare and contrast some of the very different theories and systems psychologist and others have advocated for enhancing human awareness and experience. This will include consideration of practices advocated in certain spiritual traditions, systems that aim to get at the mind through the body, along side various psychotherapeutic and other reflective strategies. The presentation will also consider the implications of attitudes and behaviours found in individuals exhibiting well-being. An attempt will be made to draw out some un derlying principles and commonalities. The speaker will conclude by arguing that there is a case for caring professionals moving beyond the current preoccupation with strategies centered round counselling and competency.
